Dental crowns are false teeth that protect damaged natural teeth or replace missing ones. They are also used as cosmetic treatments to improve smiles. But one of the biggest issues many have with traditional crown treatment is how long it takes. You usually look at multiple visits and weeks waiting for your final crown.
With CEREC, you can receive your permanent dental crown in one visit. But is this technology a little too good to be true? Dr. Bridget Lervick can answer that question at Grandview Center for Dentistry and many more.
CEREC is a new crown technology that allows your dentist to create your new crown in the office within one visit. No more extra appointments and weeks of waiting. The ceramic crowns are made using zirconia, porcelain, or a combination.
CEREC can save you a lot of time if you’ve got a busy schedule. Where Traditional crown treatment can take two or more appointments and several weeks to complete, CEREC is just one and done.
The tradeoff compared to traditional crowns can be durability, as metal or porcelain-metal-infused crowns are stronger. Dr. Lervick will discuss your expectations, budget, and timeline to help you make the best decision.
The ceramic materials used to make CEREC crowns are thoroughly tested for safety. This is great news for those with metal allergies. Dr. Lervick is a highly skilled expert with years of experience who will ensure your crown looks and works just as it should.
There are a host of great benefits that come with CEREC crowns, such as:
Patients often tell us how confident they feel when they smile, especially when they have front teeth treatment. This is fast and natural-looking. Treatment can keep your smile looking and feeling fantastic without missing a single beat!
The first step in the CEREC process involves capturing a 3D image of your teeth using a special device that scans the inside of your mouth. We then use that image to create and place your new crown that day. Dr. Lervick will also take time to shape, bond, and polish your crown. The typical appointment only takes one or two hours, depending on what’s needed.
You won’t need to follow any special guidelines or buy special products to care for your new CEREC crowns. Regular dental hygiene (brushing and flossing twice a day) will play a big role.
However, you may need to make some minor lifestyle adjustments when chewing on hard objects such as ice or hard candies. While your new crown is tough, it can chip or crack if you put it under too much pressure. Proper oral hygiene and smart chewing habits will lengthen your new crown’s lifespan.
